Purpose of Spatial Distribution
Spatial distribution, when discussing architecture and construction, deals with the relationship of buildings and structures to one another and how it affects such factors as climate and temperature.
It’s been noted that in densely populated areas where many large structures compete for space, temperatures in both summer and winter tend to be several degrees warmer. The construction of the buildings, themselves actually plays a role in the findings.
The type and color of roofing and siding on a building determines whether it absorbs the heat of the sun or reflects it back. Structures that boast dark- or black-colored roofing materials raise the temperature of the air surrounding them, especially if found in clusters.
This is one reason why spatial distribution is an important part of most building projects. It’s vital to break up large areas of dark-roofed banks and office buildings with green spaces such as parks and gardens. This helps keep the air temperatures more stable in densely populated towns and cities.
