Development Application
The Importance of a Development Application

Filing a development application is an important initial step in any architectural or landscaping project, or on any subdivision or change-of-use of a building. Before any work is able to commence on your project, a development application must be filed, stating the intentions.
This document serves several purposes:
-
It informs local council of the intent.
-
It describes what changes are being proposed to the land or structure.
-
It provides written documentation for filing.
This document must be submitted even for change of use of a building. It documents which changes were proposed by the applicant and which changes were approved by the council. This application is kept on file at the city archives and is easily researchable.
Information required on this application may include:
-
Name of property owner.
-
Previous, current and proposed use of the building.
-
Names of the architects.
-
Proposed changes and costs.
