The project was a typical intervention to a "semi-detached" dwelling, very common typology in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney.
The idea was to create an open plan living merging the backyard with the internal dining area and again dining with kitchen.
The former house had a "u" shape stairs on the eastern side, an obstacle to arrange the ground floor spaces.
The main action was to remove the existing stairs and create a new open tread stair on a steel stringer and glass balustrade that will run along the party wall. This allowed not only to open downstairs completely but also to gain enough space upstairs to create a new small bedroom.
The finished product is a Beach Style home with light timbers and stone that brighten the house and makes maintenance and cleaning easy.
